Meet David Kelly
Co-Founder and Co-Owner, eWaste Solutions
"What drives me is the combination of problem-solving and impact. Every job we do helps a company reduce risk and contributes to more responsible handling of electronic waste."
A brief introduction
I own and operate an electronics recycling and data destruction company with a team of 14 employees. We help businesses responsibly dispose of outdated technology while ensuring their sensitive data is securely destroyed. Our focus is on reliability, transparency, and doing things the right way, both environmentally and from a data security standpoint.
What inspired you to own your own business?
I have always been drawn to building something of my own and solving real-world problems. In the electronics recycling space, I saw a gap between what companies needed, secure, compliant, and trustworthy disposal, and what was often being delivered. Too many businesses were either overpaying, taking risks with data security, or unknowingly contributing to improper recycling practices.
Starting my own company gave me the opportunity to create a service that businesses could actually trust, while also building something scalable and meaningful.
What inspires your work and what sets you apart?
What drives me is the combination of problem-solving and impact. Every job we do helps a company reduce risk and contributes to more responsible handling of electronic waste.
What sets us apart is our focus on both data security and operational execution. A lot of companies lean heavily one way or the other. We make sure both are handled at a high level. We prioritize clear processes, fast turnaround times, and accountability. Clients know exactly what is happening with their equipment and their data, which builds long-term trust.
What is your background and how did you develop the skills to own your business?
My background is rooted in hands-on work, learning by doing, and constantly improving systems. I developed my skills through real-world experience, understanding logistics, sales, operations, and customer needs over time.
Running a business like this requires wearing a lot of hats: managing people, building processes, negotiating deals, and staying compliant with industry standards. Most of those skills were developed through trial, iteration, and a willingness to keep refining how things are done.
"It is not just about revenue. It is about creating an operation where clients trust us, employees take ownership, and the business continues to grow in a sustainable way."
What has been your biggest success to date?
Building a strong, reliable team has been the biggest success. Growing to 14 employees and having systems in place that allow the business to run efficiently is something I am proud of.
It is not just about revenue. It is about creating an operation where clients trust us, employees take ownership, and the business continues to grow in a sustainable way.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Scaling the business while maintaining consistency has been the biggest challenge. As you grow, it becomes harder to ensure every job meets the same standard.
Hiring the right people, training them properly, and building systems that do not break under growth takes time and constant attention. Balancing growth with quality is an ongoing challenge, but it is also what separates good businesses from great ones.
Describe your typical work day.
No two days are exactly the same, but most follow a similar structure. Mornings are focused on planning and priorities, reviewing jobs, coordinating pickups, and making sure the team is aligned.
From there it is a mix of operations and business development: overseeing logistics, handling client communication, and working on new opportunities. Afternoons often shift toward problem-solving, whether that is dealing with unexpected issues, refining processes, or improving efficiency.
At the end of the day, it is about making sure everything moved forward, both in day-to-day operations and long-term progress.
